Easy Read is a printed format specifically designed to be accessible to people with learning difficulties and disabilities.
We take your standard document and edit the text to simplify it and add explanations for any complex words which cannot be omitted. Once you have agreed the edited text contains your important key-points, we add pictures & illustrations which assist with understanding each paragraph or sentence of the text.
Easy Read is printed in 18pt and is often accompanied by Audio-CD or cassette (similar to a 'talking' book). This differs from our standard audio production as it is recorded at a slower reading speed and has instructions for the listener/reader (such as "now turn the page").
As the day-to-day effects of learning difficulties vary from person to person we work with multiple Easy Read users for each document to ensure that our edited text and picture choices are clear, understandable and the document remains fit for purpose.
As yet there are no official industry standards for the production of Easy Read. Therefore Adept has worked to create it's own standards for Easy Read production which can be found here. These standards are open access (you are free to publish them elsewhere, however we request that you credit Adept transcription when doing so).
Variable data service
Easy Read is available on our variable data service, this is for insurance documents, statements, utility bills, marketing info and other documents with multiple recipients.
As the variable data includes personal & sensitive information Adept is a registered data controller as required under the data protection act. We are also affiliated to various data protection and processing schemes & standards.
