Training, Workshops and Seminars

Disability Equality Training

Our disability equality training focuses on implementing the Social Model as an integral part of an organisation's vision, infrastructure and staff. This training benefits all members of staff from frontline/customer facing through to managers, decision makers & budget holders.

It is delivered in two stages:

DET-1 (First stage)

Designed to increase confidence and competence to work with disable people. We assist people to 'unlearn' old thinking and beliefs inherent in our society and replace them with fresh thinking inspired by the Social Model of Disability. The training provides a model of behavioural change that enables participants to shift their focus and behaviour to deliver inclusive service and employment.

DET-2 (Second stage)

Designed to implement social model practice in organisations. Participants' learn more detail of barriers disabled people experience and identify 'hidden' barriers in their organisation in order to influence the implementation of change within their workplace.

Legislation training

(The Equalities Act 2010, Disability Discrimination Act 1995 & SENDA)

These three pieces of legislation may require changes to premises and practice so disabled people are not discriminated against.

Our training courses give the principles and responsibilities enabling organisations to review their practice for potential discrimination; and know the changes required to meet their legal duties.

Learn what the Act says and what it means to comply with or fall foul of this law.

Access Auditor Training

This workshop enables you to build capacity within your own organisation to carry out access audits. It covers the skills required to obtain an effective access audit report and prioritise money, resources and time.

It comprises three days of formal in-class training and one-day on-site auditing plus mentoring and support post-training. Delegates will gain an understanding of the Social Model of disability and equality legislation, both of which underpin the successful outcome of an audit.

You will also use the Adept software audit tool, designed to produce summary and detailed reports; and accumulate a series of audits into a single management report.

Inclusive Communications Training

This one-day course on inclusive communication enables organisations to implement strategies and practice around including disabled people in their communications - verbal, visual and written.

Delegates will gain an understanding of the Social Model of disablity, basic knowledge of current legislation and business benefits of accessible format provision.

Theory and practical sessions will provide opportunities to produce alternative formats and consider various strategies for implementing 'inclusive communications' in your organisation.

Delegates are expected to leave with understanding on their current requirement, if they meet their legal & social responsibilities and to create an action plan for the implementation of accessible formats/information into their organisation.
